2018 Reflections & Gratitude

Happy New Year! 2018 marked 15 years of KIPP in Los Angeles, so we are reflecting on KIPP LA’s top 15 stories in the last year as we prepare for even greater accomplishments in the year to come. #grateful

 

 

  1. Two of the 30 students chosen from across the nation for the prestigious Caroline D. Bradley high school scholarship were KIPP LA alumni
  2. The school year kicked off with a week-long professional development opportunity in order to “Start Strong”
  3. Innovate Public Schools featured KIPP Raíces Academy in their Guide to Transforming Special Education
  4. KIPP LA appointed four new board members to provide diverse perspective and leadership
  5. For the first time ever, KIPP LA alumni will attend Stanford, UCS, and Tuskegee #bettermakeroom
  6. Dr. LeAnna Majors, KIPP Compton’s founding school leader, provided culturally-relevant teaching resources as part of Black History Month celebrations
  7. KIPP LA launched its first-ever internship program for alumni hoping to gain professional development and networking opportunities
  8. KIPP LA published its 2016-17 and 2017-18 annual impact reports
  9. Four KIPP LA alumni were awarded college scholarships from the Sheryl Sandberg & Dave Goldberg Family Foundation in its inaugural year
  10. KIPP LA opened KIPP Compton Community School, its first school outside of LAUSD, and KIPP Corazón Academy Upper School
  11. Over the summer, teachers participated in professional development sessions and school operations teams participated in a session led by Families in Schools on creating welcoming environments for students and families
  12. KIPP LA recognized the importance of representation during Hispanic Heritage Month
  13. Students celebrated their diverse cultures and backgrounds through performances, fairs, and even a living wax museum
  14. KIPP Corazón students were the youngest to participate in a UCLA youth summit
  15. The Latinx and Black Leader Philanthropy Initiatives launched with an interactive guest teacher event in South Los Angeles
